Research Post N*2: Site analysis/ environmental analysis

Image
The project is set in the town of New Cornwell, Connecticut, USA. I took a screenshot from Google Earth of the area, a typical low-profile American town with great green spaces. Unfortunately, the town suffered a horrible fire that leveled it to the ground, therefore the site will only be limited by the street. The site will only be limited  by three roads; Shunpike for the west elevation, Sanford Ln for the north, and Alexander Dr for the east.  Here is a bird's view of the site, it is basically a rectangle that is 140m large (north and south elevations) and 160m long.  At first, I thought about making the north part 120m. However, that will make the arches too circular, because the distance between the columns is too long, I will discuss these decisions further in the next posts.     Weather : Summertime temperatures in Cromwell range from a pleasant 10-15 degrees Celsius at night to a warm 25–30 degrees Celsius during the day. I think the weather is great for making use of ever

Research Post N*1: Andrea Palladio and Palladianism.

Image
During this break, I discovered the Palladian style in architecture whose father is Andrea Palladio. According to Richardson (2024), Pietro Andrea della Gondola (1508–1580). Palladio was regarded as the most successful architect of the sixteenth century, for which he was copied up to four centuries after his death by numerous other architects. Portrait of Palladio by Alessandro Maganza Based on what I have researched and his beautiful buildings, I think I can see why so many consider his work phenomenal, I would say that his style gives a sense of organization since it is mostly centralized, and the entrance is always in the middle for example and the essence of his work is more focused on the detail of the functional entities of the building. I think it might be linked back to the fact that he started as a mason.  According to Ewing et al (1974), t here is more to a Palladian house's tightness and appropriateness than just a sense of comfort and symmetry. It is the prevailing spir

Pre-project outline

Here is the link to my sign off sheet Project signoff  (my own) In this tutorial, my tutor and I discussed what my project will look like in terms of design which will be classical/ gothic and Moorish. Then, we discussed the materials that I think I will use in my 3d outcome; wood, acetate, acrylic, and plaster. We also discussed the further research that I will do which will be about Palladianism, Classical architecture, and the relationship between Gothic Revival and Moorish architecture. Additionally, I am going to research the different styles of architecture used in the USA, and styles of arches in different cultures and styles, with emphasis on Moorish and Gothic styles. I will also research a few aspects of decoration may that be out of stone or plaster. I will also research a few designers such as; Andrea Palladio, and Charles Barry. Furthermore, I am going to research the different materials that I can potentially include in my project such as toughened glass aluminum and ren

idea development N*1

Image
Idea development My main concept was more classical and Romanesque in nature. It would include gathering about sixteen columns under one roof to create an opulent and retro atmosphere. The structure would have four stories.   (My own picture) This is the type of columns that initially gave me inspirations to do this style of architecture, it is a vintage building in Leicester city center that I always pass by, it is what I had in mind at first when think about the design above. (m y own) This was the second plan, heavily based on geometric shapes. I wanted it to have both an organized appearance and be aesthetically beautiful. At first, I suppose road junctions inspired me since I was thinking about how people would move through the building, which made me think about how all items and entities would flow. My goal was to create a geometric design with a swimming pool outside and two pieces joined by an organic-shaped sphere, the geometric section resembled a plus sign. I believe I wou

mind map: brainstorming Ideas.

Image
Generating Ideas In this session, we tried to brainstorm a few ideas and inspirations for our projects, and ever since, I have had many ideas that range from Roman, classical, and Palladian architecture from what I have seen, I can only conclude that the essence of this style is symmetry and geometrical shapes, onto colonial and modernist.  (My own picture.) At first, I had a brain freeze because I did not know what to draw, but then I started sketching the structure which I consider to be modernist, that is what I think will make a good gym for a start. However, this seems too simple and too plain, which is the reason why I started thinking about the inspiration for Romans and classical architecture that I had in the holidays. That explains the sketches of the Roman dome which I find interesting because it resembles the domes that I usually saw in mosques and in Muslim architecture. In addition to pillars and arches that I think have an enormous effect on the design aside from their f

Term 3: Welcome Post

Image
Welcome back to my blog, this is the 3rd and last term of this year. I am looking forward to another experience with yet another project, I hope I will get to improve most of the flaws from the last two terms, which includes the need for a deeper analysis of the research that I will do and show how it relates to my work, as that was something that I lacked in the last project in terms of building connections between research and understanding it to further prove my process of thought. I will also make sure to accommodate the blogs to the marking criteria regularly which was something that I lacked last term. Unfortunately, I did not use software for my 2d outcomes as much as I wanted to, in this project I plan on utilizing various tools, to reach a higher level of efficiency and precision in my design, which I think will help me in my undergraduate course.. Lastly, it was also hard to plan and manage my time, which made the project lack momentum in terms of blog posting, design develo
