structural perspective: material for columns and beams.
After some research, I think the material that fits my columns and beams is recycled steel. The manufacturer is called: Cleveland Steel & Tubes Ltd. They operate internationally since it is a company that was established in 1973.
According to them: "Using surplus steel tube in a construction or infrastructure project can deliver massive carbon savings. Sustainability is now high on the agenda for many purchasing managers and specifiers, with many turning to using independently tested and certified surplus steel. The use of surplus steel tubes can deliver huge savings on material costs, lead times as well as carbon emissions."
3,850 tonnes of steel were needed to build the roof of the Olympic Stadium, a project for which Watson Steel was awarded the contract.
The contractor suggested using leftover steel for the Olympic Development Agency (ODA) because it was worried about the lengthy lead times for the freshly milled steel needed for this project. The use of excess steel was permitted by the ODA due to its much lower carbon footprint.
To satisfy its needs, Watson Steel resorted to Cleveland Steel & Tubes Ltd, the top supplier of excess steel in the UK.
Twenty percent of the steel used in the stadium overall and sixty-five percent of the steel used in the roof were supplied by Cleveland Steel in the form of 2,500 tonnes of excess steel for the stadium roof trusses. (Anon, n.d.)
