Initial Research

Since my project is derived from industrialism, we need to first ask what is industrial architecture?

According to Hohendal, Kristin (2022), The design and construction of structures to support the requirements of the industrial sector is recognized as industrial architecture. The safe movement, distribution, and production of goods and labor are taken into account by the industrial world's architecture, which employs a variety of building designs and styles.

I also found that this type of architecture is often characterized by; large windows, large open floor plans, and high ceilings, built to safety standards (Hohendal, Kristin (2022)).

Since I am choosing to do a library/study space, I thought it would be a good idea to put the industrialism theme in a material context, more clearly in the materials used.

I will use steel, concrete and glass for the cylinder in the center of the building since it is the part that holds everything together. I will also use steel and concrete for the pillars that we can see in the drawing.

At the moment I think this is what the building will look like. The centre cylinder is made out of glass and steel mainly. whereas the floors are made out of concrete and normal materials.with glass windows all around. the top part was inspired by the object that we had in class and it will be a panoramic restaurant with a view of the area surrounding it.

For the cylinder it will have lifts and stair in addition to a enormous tree right at the center.

Moreover for the area where this project will be, I am thinking about the ... park, since the surroundings are natural and gorgeous, which offers a calming environment for the people studying, especially outdoors on the balconies. They will also be ecologically sustainable, with a number of vegetation sites around the balcony and seating areas as well as the solar pannels that will be added later on.

  1. I hope this isn't the end of this post and you aren't thinking this is what passes for a research post! The text in the second paragraph is very close to text on Wikipedia about Industrial Architecture. If you are going to paraphrase, use a reliable source. I don't know if Hohendal is reliable because you haven't included a reference and I can't check it.

Discuss industrial architecture in terms of what you want to do - if you end up designing an educational/study space, then your focus might be on one subject area, for example an Architectural library.
