initial thoughts

My project is going to be inspired by one of the three designated themes, Industrialism, primitivism, or Pop art.

Industrialism: simplicity is the main idea for cost purposes, it also focuses on practicality rather than aesthetics which is why many find it shallow and boring. I think it is close to brutalism, additionally, I find that there is a rare use of bright colors, usually just grey tones.

Primitivism: simplicity is also the main point, close to nature, natural materials such as rammed earth, good sustainability, and offers great climatisation inside in extreme weather.


Pop art: I find it creative, with fewer limitations and rules, a variety of styles to choose from music to theater to acting... and a good option for advertisement, I think it is very close to street art in its chaotic way.


Industrialism to me is the most appealing because I can relate the building more to the environment around it, and since this movement is in my opinion the most altering period of the modern world.

    Mouad - go back to this and edit as we discussed with more thoughts on each theme and how you might potentially use these. Then at the end reflect on which one of the three you are most drawn to and why.#

Since my project is derived from industrialism, we need to first ask what is industrial architecture? According to Hohendal, Kristin (2022), The design and construction of structures to support the requirements of the industrial sector is recognized as industrial architecture. Site plan analysis

                   2D picture of the site I chose this plan because it is close to the river yet far enough in case of floods. It is a 20m/20m square, which makes it 400 m². However, the Riad as a building will only be 255m².  This area is a village called Imlil. Which was severely damaged by the last earthquake in September 2023. According to Khatla (2023). Nearly 6000 houses were destroyed whilst 20000 were partly demolished. Research post N*4: The houses of parliament and Moorish architecture

This structure is what I find to be the most gorgeous one in the United Kingdom, alongside the best in the world, it is a prime pillar of Gothic Architecture. A fire broke out at London's historic Palace of Westminster in 1834. resulting in burning it down to ashes. The fire provided Britain with an opportunity to replace what was seen to be an antiquated, outdated, disorganized collection of government buildings as well as to construct a Gothic Revival monument that would symbolically represent the UK's global leadership and the origins of modern democracy.
